Event Overview

AusBiotech 2010 national conference, with its key theme 'Creating Global Solutions,' was held in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on 19 – 22 October 2010. It was proudly hosted by AusBiotech Limited, the biotechnology industry organisation representing more than 3,000 members, in the interests of developing the biotechnology sector in Australia.

The event was once again supported by the State Government of Victoria. The Premier of Victoria, the Hon John Brumby, joined by the Hon Gavin Jennings, the Minister for Innovation, opened the event.

The AusBiotech 2010 conference witnessed the growing reputation of the Australian biotechnology sector on the world stage. With rising interest from international delegates, investors and speakers, Australia’s achievements in biotechnology innovation are gaining attention across the globe.

Growing on the triumph of last year, AusBiotech once again began its annual conference with the highly successful Australasian Life Sciences Investment Summit (ALSIS) 2010. The premier life sciences investment event for Australia and the Asia-Pacific region attracted 150 invited investors from 99 organisations to view a showcase of 35 selected Australian biotechnology companies. Of the unprecedented number of attendees (256), 49 investors representing 39 companies joined ALSIS 2010 from overseas, with 19 US investor companies sending at least one representative.

AusBiotech 2010, the industry’s biotechnology conference for the Asia Pacific region and associated events, attracted 1,503 participants to Melbourne for the annual meeting. Registered delegates included 190 international delegates from 20 countries, with the largest delegations coming from New Zealand, the US, the UK, Canada and Singapore.
